ABOUT

THREADS is an annual celebration showcasing student work from the Textiles and Fashion Design Program in the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The show is produced with the collaborative participation of students across the UW-Madison campus. Combining music, lights, dance, and movement, Threads is an annual event that seeks to engage the Madison community in the excitement and appreciation of contemporary design.

OUR GOALS

  • Showcase and celebrate the work of students in the SoHE Design Studies Program
  • Provide students the opportunity to gain real-world experience as team members in producing a collaborative, highly creative, professional-level event
  • Use art and design to anchor SoHE as a hub for multi-disciplinary collaborations to create interaction and dialogue around issues in design

Meet the Team

Emily Fleming

PR Lead & Event Coordinator

When I first joined Threads my sophomore year, I was excited to gain experience working on large scale fashion shows and events. Throughout my two years on the creative direction team, I have gained invaluable experience in social media, event preparation and high-level planning, creative and strategic writing, and leadership.
For my third year on the team, I am excited to continue bringing people together to facilitate discussions and appreciation of fashion and design in the Madison community.

I was interested in the class was because I wanted to learn how to organize my creative ideas and how to communicate them efficiently to others. I also wanted to gain experience and a greater understanding of creative direction in a more professional and practical setting instead of just in the abstract.

I joined this class to not only learn what it takes to take a creative direction on event planning, but also to have a hands-on opportunity to plan a great event for my final fashion show. I currently am taking lead on graphic design to promote our event.
